Investors’ interest turned to the decline of bitcoin below $50.000, but also to reports that the US president will propose an increase in taxation of wealthy investors.

 

Joe Biden is to propose raising capital gains tax from 20% to 39.6% for US investors earning more than $1 million in stock trading.

 

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 closed in the green 0.72% while the broader Topix lost 0.55%. Earlier, the Nikkeei lost 1%, according to Coindesk.

 

In South Korea, Kospi fell slightly, but ended with a 0.20% rise. In mainland China, Shanghai composite rose 0.18% while the Shenzhen component gained 0.747%. In Australia the S&P/ASX 200 with marginal gains of 0.08%. In India, where coronavirus cases are rampant with 310.000 new infections in a 24-hour period, the Nifty 50 index lost 0.4% while the BSE Sensex fell 0.47%. The broadest MSCI for the Asia-Pacific region outside Japan gained 0.3%.
