SpaceX accepts DOGE as payment to launch DOGE-1 mission to the Moon

SpaceX will participate in the “DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon” mission, a mission to the moon next year, with the aerospace company of billionaire Elon Musk accepting the Dogecoin cryptocurrency as payment, according to Reuters.

The mission was announced by Geometric Energy Corporation, noting that the whole project will be financed with Dogecoin, without specifying its financial value.

The DOGE-1 mission will send a satellite using SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket to gather information “with sensors and cameras and integrated communications and computing systems.”

“We are excited to announce the launch of DOGE-1 on the moon!”, Said SpaceX Vice President Tom Ochinero in a statement released by Geometric Energy.

In April, Musk tweeted that SpaceX would literally send “Dogecoin to the moon.

Dogecoin, however, lost more than a third of its value on Sunday, following Musk’s controversial remarks on his Saturday Night Live show. Musk agreed with the show ‘s comments that the coin “is a hustle“, although he estimated that it would “conquer the world”.
